The Encantus

The pages of the Encantus.

The Encantus is our textbook. The art, science, and history of sorcery. Including our recent history as well.
~ Balthazar Blake about the Encantus.

The Encantus (pl. "Encanti") is a magical textbook that deals with magic and spells. It is an object featured in the 2010 Disney fantasy movie The Sorcerer's Apprentice. An Encantus is considered every magician’s guideline that teaches the art, history, and science of sorcery.

Characteristics and History[]

Much like other spellbooks in other fantasy fictions, the Encantus contains instructions on how to perform supernatural charms, spells, and also how to create magical objects such as amulets and talismans. But unlike typical spellbooks however, the Encantus itself magically records the art, history, and science of sorcery (including both past struggles between benevolent Merlineans' and wicked Morganians), implied having omniscience properties. All known Encanti are the copies of the original textbook of the same name.

According to Balthazar Blake, it is revealed that there have been many copies of the Encantus given to many conjurors, especially those on both sides, like the Merlineans and Morganians.

Variants[]

  • Regular Encanti: Standard Encantus which has little to no additional properties.
  • Pocket Edition Encanti: Encantus that can be magically folded several times into a pocket-sized, miniature version of its true form. An Encantus that Balthazar gave to Dave Stutler is one of them. Pocket editions seems to be more easier to carry than regular-sized Encanti.
